Africa is a land of opportunities for the world.
The Dark Continent
The mention of Africa, by and large makes us think and believe conflicts, violence, poverty, backwardness, hunger and the like. But there is another face of Africa as well. That of hope and aspiration. Africa provides the majority of peacekeepers for the UN all around the world. So also African countries have been the homes for the largest number of refugees. Africa also has some of the world’s fastest growing economies. [For a comprehensive resource page on United Nations, welcome here] Besides the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Africa has adopted its own complementary plan – Agenda 2063. Most conflicts are a result of internal competition for power and resources, inequality and sectarian divides. The conflicts need to be prevented to make way for development. Inclusive and sustainable growth is the key to durable peace. Africa has a young population, which can be used as an opportunity for development. For this to happen, more investment in education and training has to be made.

अफ्रीका का उल्लेख होते ही आम तौर पर हमारे मन में संघर्ष, हिंसा, आतंकवाद, गरीबी, पिछड़ेपन, भुखमरी जैसे ही विचार आते हैं। परंतु अफ्रीका का एक अन्य स्वरुप भी है, और वह है आशा और आकांक्षा का।
अफ्रीका विश्व भर में सर्वाधिक संयुक्त राष्ट्र शांति सैनिक प्रदान करता है। साथ ही अफ्रीकी देश सर्वाधिक संख्या में शरणार्थियों को आश्रय प्रदान करते हैं। इसीके साथ अफ्रीका में विश्व की कुछ सर्वाधिक तेजी से बढ़ने वाली अर्थव्यवस्थाएं भी हैं। (संयुक्त राष्ट्र पर एक विस्तृत पृष्ठ हेतु, यहाँ आएं)
संयुक्त राष्ट्र के धारणीय विकास लक्ष्य एजेंडा 2030 के अतिरिक्त अफ्रीका ने स्वयं अपनी पूरक योजना अपनाई है - एजेंडा 2063।
अधिकांश संघर्ष सत्ता और संसाधनों, असमानताओं और सांप्रदायिक विभाजन के लिए आतंरिक प्रतिस्पर्धा का परिणाम होते हैं।
समावेशी और धारणीय विकास ही स्थाई शांति की कुंजी है।
अफ्रीका की जनसंख्या युवा है, जिसे विकास के लिए एक अवसर के रूप में इस्तेमाल किया जा सकता है। परंतु ऐसा करने के लिए शिक्षा और प्रशिक्षण के क्षेत्र में अधिक निवेश करना होगा।
