- PMUY : The present government has launched many social welfare schemes for a direct impact on the lives of the poor sections of the society. A scheme for poor, rurual women is Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala yojana (PMUY) – launched on May 1, 2016, from Balia, Uttar Pradesh.
 - LPG for women of poor households : The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels, mostly used in the rural areas, with clean and more efficient LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas). Under this scheme, the government aims to provide deposit free LPG connections to BPL (Below Poverty Line) households in the country. The huge pollution caused inside homes by organic cooking fuels destroys the health of the women, and the children.

For this purpose, Rs. 8000 crore have been approved under PMUY. The scheme is being implemented using the money saved in LPG subsidy through the “Give-It-Up” campaign.
 - Supply : To ensure smooth supply of LPG cylinders to meet the demand, the government is in the process of setting up of 10,000 new distributorships, majority of these would be in the rural areas to cater to the unserved consumers.
 - OMCs in action : By December 2016, Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have released 1.23 crore new LPG connections under PMUY. The government has also started an EMI scheme for refilling the LPG and for buying stove.
